The Municipality Continues to Remove Encroachments on State Property in Residential Areas

Al-Ghaiss: Two-week deadline to rectify violations... The law applies to everyone

Kuwait Municipality confirmed on Monday the continuation of its field campaign, “Kuwait is More Beautiful Without Encroachments,” to monitor and remove violations constructed on state lands, aiming to curb unsightly conditions and the accumulation of waste in residential areas.

Sulaiman Al-Ghaiss, head of the Violations Removal Department at the Municipality’s Capital Governorate branch, stated in a press comment during a municipal tour in the Shuwaikh Residential Area that building diwaniyas (traditional gathering spaces) across streets constitutes a clear violation of regulations and laws.

Al-Ghaiss explained that the municipality’s field team had monitored and issued a warning to the owner of the diwaniya, granting him a period exceeding 14 days to voluntarily remove it, as part of enforcing the law.

He noted that despite the high temperatures and humidity, municipal teams are fully carrying out their supervisory duties to curb and eliminate violations on state lands.

He pointed out that the campaign continues to remove and prevent the construction of green fences around house setbacks or the erection of diwaniyas on street sidewalks, which endanger pedestrians and increase the likelihood of traffic accidents.

He clarified that Kuwait Municipality operates in accordance with regulations that outline its procedures and the fines property owners must comply with, including the cleanliness regulation, road occupation rules, and safety regulations.

Al-Ghaiss urged owners of encroachments on state properties in private and model residential areas to promptly respond and remove all forms of encroachments before the Municipality takes legal measures, which may include imposing financial fines.
