Al-Sahel Regains Top Spot, Capitalizing on Al-Yarmouk and Al-Sulaibikhat’s Stumbles

With four rounds remaining and the First Division approaching its conclusion, competition has intensified among four teams: Al-Sahel, Al-Yarmouk, Al-Sulaibikhat, and Al-Jazira, with two of them vying for promotion to the Premier League for the 2026-2027 season.

Al-Sahel took advantage of the setbacks suffered by Al-Yarmouk and Al-Sulaibikhat, reclaiming the top position they had relinquished in the previous round, securing a valuable victory, particularly as it came after two consecutive draws.

The "Sons of Abu Halifa" secured an important 2-0 victory over Sporty in the 17th round of the competition, moving to the top of the table with 37 points, ahead of Al-Yarmouk and Al-Sulaibikhat, who drew 0-0 in consecutive matches against Khaitan and Burqan.

Notably, Khaitan and Burqan had halted Al-Sahel’s momentum in the previous two rounds, forcing draws and costing them four points that could have temporarily knocked them off the top spot.

Al-Jazira also capitalized on the struggles of Al-Yarmouk and Al-Sulaibikhat, recording a commanding 5-0 win over Al-Shamaya. This result narrowed the gap between Al-Jazira and the two teams to just one point, while reducing the deficit between Al-Jazira and league leaders Al-Sahel to only three points.

Al-Jazira currently sits in fourth place with 34 points.

Abdulaziz Al-Filakawi, manager of Al-Yarmouk’s first team, stated that "the players squandered three valuable points that were within their reach following their goalless draw with Khaitan, raising their total to 36 points and placing them second in the standings." He added that "the sons of the coach excelled in missing easy and clear-cut chances against Khaitan’s goal; they could have secured all three points by scoring several goals, had luck not been against the strikers." He emphasized that the team dominated the match throughout both halves, but luck did not favor them in securing the victory.

Al-Filakawi urged the players to "forget the recent match and focus on the upcoming game against Burqan next Tuesday," noting that "all remaining matches will be decisive, and there is no room for defeat or further point leakage if the team aims for promotion to the Premier League." He expressed "full confidence in the players and their ability to deliver their best."
