NASA Revives 'Human Extinction' Scenario

Fears have resurfaced over a terrifying scenario in which an asteroid from outer space collides with Earth, potentially wiping out everything humanity has built over thousands of years in an event akin to the extinction of the dinosaurs, according to global news agencies.

Umberto Campins, an asteroid expert at the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), warned that human civilization must prepare for this scenario, emphasizing that such events “will inevitably recur,” even though the risk of their occurrence during the current generation’s lifetime remains extremely low.

In media comments made on the sidelines of the “The Many Pathways to Space” conference in the Spanish city of Oviedo, Campins clarified that individuals “have no reason to worry at present,” as scientists are not detecting any asteroid posing a direct threat to Earth. However, he stressed that this does not negate the need to develop long-term planetary protection measures.
