Primary school students train on 'healthy shopping' in cooperatives

- A joint initiative launched by the Ministries of Social Affairs and Health in collaboration with the Cooperative Societies Union

Sources revealed that the Ministry of Social Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies, is preparing to launch the “Healthy Shopping” initiative in cooperative societies. The initiative aims to train fifth-grade students in making healthy purchasing decisions and selecting appropriate food products.

Sources stated that the initiative falls under the project to combat non-communicable chronic diseases, which is included in Kuwait’s Fourth Development Plan (2025–2030), and is part of community programs aimed at enhancing health awareness and promoting a culture of proper nutrition.

The sources clarified that the initiative targets fifth-grade students, teaching them how to choose healthy food products while shopping in cooperative societies, thereby helping to instill healthy dietary behaviors and habits from an early age.

They added that the choice of cooperative societies to implement the initiative stems from their widespread presence and their role as one of the primary daily shopping outlets for citizens and residents, as well as their direct impact on consumers and the food sector.

The cooperative societies were urged to cooperate with the specialized teams in the Ministry of Health and provide the necessary support and facilitation to implement the scheduled programs and ensure the success of the initiative, contributing to the achievement of its health and awareness objectives.

Sources emphasized the importance of acting in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s letter regarding the initiative, within the framework of strengthening cooperation between government entities and the cooperative sector to support prevention programs and enhance public health in society.
