Bahrain Condemns Treacherous Iranian Attack on Emirati Oil Tanker: A Blatant Violation of International Law

- The Security Council is called upon to take deterrent measures and compel Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and refrain from targeting commercial vessels.

The Kingdom of Bahrain expressed its strongest condemnation and rejection today, Saturday, of the treacherous Iranian missile attack on an ADNOC-affiliated oil tanker while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, in a blatant violation of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and Security Council Resolution 2817, and as a serious threat to maritime navigation security and energy supplies.

The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s full solidarity with the sister State of the United Arab Emirates, and its complete support for the measures it is taking to safeguard its sovereignty, security, stability, and vital interests, based on the deep-rooted historical fraternal ties binding the leaderships and peoples of the two sister countries.

It further emphasized that the security and stability of the UAE are an integral part of Bahrain’s national security, stressing the necessity for the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities and take deterrent measures to protect the security and safety of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and vital waterways, and to compel Iran to reopen the strait and refrain from targeting commercial vessels, thereby safeguarding the interests of the countries in the region and the world, and preserving regional security and stability.
