Death of Lionel Messi's Father
Argentine media reported on Saturday that Jorge Messi, father of Argentine star Lionel Messi, died on Friday evening at the age of 68 after a battle with illness.
The Argentine website Infobae reported that the Inter Miami player learned of his father’s death hours before his team’s match against Mexican side Monterrey, after Jorge passed away in a hospital in Rosario.
Jorge Messi was one of the most prominent supporters of his son’s football career, managing many of his off-field commitments and backing him since his early days at Newell’s Old Boys. He also sought to provide the necessary medical treatment for him during his youth career.
Jorge accompanied his son to Barcelona at the start of his European journey and remained by his side throughout his tenure with the Spanish club, while his wife managed the affairs of the rest of the family in Rosario.

Jorge celebrated Lionel’s achievements on his Instagram account, alongside posting photos and moments featuring his sons, grandchildren, and other family members.
He was also accustomed to appearing with family members during World Cup tournaments. The absence of Messi family photos in the United States during the last World Cup drew attention, except for the appearance of his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, alongside their sons Ciro, Mateo, and Thiago.
