Qatar condemns attack on Emirati tanker: a blatant violation of international law and freedom of navigation

- Reiterated its firm rejection of using the Strait of Hormuz as a pressure card and called for its reopening without conditions

Qatar strongly condemned the Iranian attack targeting an ADNOC-owned Emirati tanker with a missile as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, deeming it a blatant violation of international law and freedom of maritime navigation, and a clear breach of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the country’s firm rejection of using the Strait of Hormuz as a pressure tool, and called for its unconditional reopening, emphasizing that freedom of navigation in this vital waterway is a firm principle that allows for no compromise, and that continued closure of the strait endangers the vital interests of regional countries and the global economy.
