Syrian Interior Ministry thwarts ISIS plot targeting a government facility in the Damascus countryside
The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that a night patrol unit under the Internal Security Command in the Damascus countryside foiled an attempt to carry out a terrorist attack in the Sayyida Zainab area, while performing duties on roads leading to military barracks and government centers.
The ministry stated that patrol personnel suspected two masked individuals who were positioned on the side of the road. When the patrol attempted to stop them to verify their identities, the suspects opened fire on the officers, leading to a firefight that ended with their neutralization.
An inspection of the site revealed that the suspects had been planting an explosive device in preparation for a terrorist attack targeting a government entity. Explosives and weapons were also found in their possession, and it was determined that they were linked to the Daesh terrorist organization.
