US Treasury Secretary: Potential agreement to open the Strait of Hormuz today or tomorrow

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for a period of 30 to 60 days could be reached today or tomorrow, noting that this would lead to a drop in energy prices.

Bessent added that the United States is “economically strangling Iran,” pointing out that Iran’s inflation rate ranges between 150 and 180 percent and that it is facing difficulties paying its military salaries.

He affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz “will not return to what it was,” justifying this by stating that Iran used it or attempted to use it as a choke point.

Bessent noted that “Operation Epic Wrath” represents the military dimension of the confrontation, while the Treasury Department, according to him, has carried out “Operation Economic Wrath.”
