One dead and six injured in 4.9-magnitude earthquake in Sichuan, China

One person was killed and six others were injured on Friday following an earthquake that struck Sichuan province in southwestern China, as authorities dispatched specialized teams to the affected area to assess the situation.

The China Earthquake Networks Center and state television reported that the tremor occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m. local time at a shallow depth of less than 6 kilometers, which amplified its ground impact.

State media stated that one person died after a wall collapsed while he was attempting to seek shelter, while the injuries sustained by the six others were described as minor.

Chinese media reported that local authorities took emergency measures in the wake of the earthquake and sent teams to the affected area to assess the situation.
