Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey Sign Joint Defense Agreement

- It stipulates that any armed attack on any state constitutes an attack on all three countries

Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan signed today, Friday,

the "Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense"

in a move aimed at enhancing defense cooperation and consolidating a collective deterrence system, thereby supporting security and stability at both the regional and international levels.

The signing of the agreement took place during the Mecca Summit for Joint Defense, which brought together Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The leaders reviewed the distinguished relations among the three countries and discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest.

Enhancing Common Security

The agreement, which is based on the historical and fraternal ties uniting the three countries, shared strategic interests, and existing defense cooperation, affirmed Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening their collective security and contributing to consolidating security, peace, and stability in the region and the world.

Collective Response to Any Aggression

The Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense stipulates that any armed attack targeting one of the three countries is considered an attack on all contracting parties, thereby reinforcing the principle of collective deterrence and underscoring their shared commitment to confronting any threats to their security and sovereignty.

The agreement also aims to develop various aspects of defense and military cooperation and enhance coordination among the three countries, thereby raising readiness levels and strengthening their capacity to address shared security challenges.
