7 killed, more than 15 injured in school shooting in Thailand

Seven people, including teachers and students, were killed and more than 15 others were injured on Friday in a shooting at a school in a district north of the Thai capital, Bangkok, according to Trairong Viwong, a spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police.

Thai media reported that the shooter, a boy aged 14 or 15, was also killed, though it was not immediately clear whether he was shot by police or took his own life.

Thai PBS radio reported that the shooting took place at a high school in Bang Kruai district, Nonthaburi province.

Thailand is among the countries in the region with high rates of firearm ownership, with an estimated 10 million guns in circulation, roughly one weapon for every seven residents.
