Health Ministry launches platform for training health personnel in collaboration with US Mayo Clinic

- Monthly lectures for over a year, implemented by experts and specialists to showcase the latest medical developments

The Ministry of Health launched today, Wednesday, a training platform for health cadres in collaboration with the US Mayo Clinic, through a series of lectures presented by experts and specialists from the hospital. The initiative highlights the latest developments shaping the future of medicine, starting on August 18.

In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Sheikh Dr. Salman Khalifa Al Sabah, said that the cooperation between the ministry and Mayo Clinic represents an important opportunity for collaboration in various fields, enabling the acquisition and utilization of medical expertise.

Sheikh Dr. Salman Al Sabah added that what distinguishes Mayo Clinic is not only its clinical aspects, but also its management and policy-making dimensions, making it one of the most important hospitals worldwide.

He emphasized that Kuwait possesses the necessary infrastructure to achieve future goals for sustainable healthcare, which will reflect on the scope of opportunities available, expressing hope for Mayo Clinic’s contribution in this regard.

For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for External Health Services at the ministry, Dr. Hisham Kalander, told KUNA that the platform aims to transfer expertise between the ministry and the hospital, and to share the latest health practices that will positively impact service levels and the quality of care provided to both citizens and residents.

Dr. Kalander added that the launch of the platform marks the beginning of a series of other projects, consisting of a set of continuous monthly lectures on various topics aimed at developing the healthcare system.

He confirmed that the Ministry of Health places great emphasis on supporting and developing health cadres in Kuwait by providing necessary health services to enhance the quality of care delivered.

For his part, Dr. Omar Ghanem, Medical Director of Mayo Clinic in the Middle East, told KUNA: "Today, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health in Kuwait, we launched a series of lectures that enable doctors in Kuwait to benefit from the medical expertise and information provided by a select group of specialists at Mayo Clinic."

Dr. Ghanem added that Mayo Clinic is not limited to clinical aspects alone, but also extends to research, as it has 22 main research laboratories and spends approximately $1.3 billion annually on research, an investment that reflects the significant attention given to this field.

He clarified that Mayo Clinic has five colleges: the College of Medicine, the College of Graduate Medical Education, the College of Continuing Professional Development, as well as the Colleges of Health Sciences and Biomedical Sciences, along with 450 educational programs.
