Before the Cancellation of Home-Based Licenses
In a move aimed at regulating real estate brokerage activities, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has extended the validity of “home-based” free trade licenses for brokerage operations for one month, allowing license holders to regularize their status. The licenses will cease to be valid entirely starting September 1, 2026.
Imad Haydar, head of the Real Estate Brokers Union, told Al-Siyasa that the home-based licenses were originally scheduled to expire on August 1 of this year. However, the Union wrote to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry requesting an additional grace period for license holders to regularize their status, citing the short timeframe allotted to complete the necessary procedures. The Ministry agreed to extend the licenses for one more month, until the end of August, after which they will be permanently discontinued.
Haydar clarified that the decision affects 583 real estate brokers. He noted that former Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled Al-Ajmi had halted the issuance of new home-based licenses for brokerage activities, while allowing existing licenses to remain valid at the time. Meanwhile, the current Minister of Commerce and Industry, Osama Boudi, issued a decision to permanently suspend the home-based licenses as part of the Ministry’s plan to regulate the real estate brokerage market and enhance professionalism and oversight of the sector.
