'Ministry of Commerce': 1,397 violations and 131 consumer complaints in July

The periodic statistics issued by the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Administration at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry revealed that 1,397 violations were recorded during last July. Violations detected through periodic inspection rounds by control teams accounted for the largest share, totaling 1,266 violations, or 90.6% of the total. Meanwhile, the number of consumer complaint reports reached 131, representing 9.4%.

The statistics showed that the violations were distributed across 31 categories. Leading the list were violations of regulations governing advertising, contracts, and invoices, with 212 violations recorded for failing to use the Arabic language. Additionally, 145 violations related to pricing and commercial fraud were recorded for failing to display prices, along with 90 violations concerning deception and fraud regarding the type, origin, composition, or expiration date of goods.

Violations of regulations on the replacement and return of goods also stood out, alongside violations of commercial licenses and mandatory product and service information. The Ministry recorded 71 violations for the absence of a prominent Arabic advertisement explaining the replacement and return mechanism, and 64 violations for conducting commercial activities without obtaining a license. Furthermore, 57 violations were recorded for suppliers’ failure to display mandatory information in Arabic on product packaging, containers, or at display locations.
