L&T Wins Contract with Kuwait Oil Company to Construct Six Storage Tanks with a Capacity of 618,000 Barrels for the Unit
Establishment of Light Jurassic Crude Export Facilities
L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore, a division of the Indian Larsen & Toubro (L&T) company, has won a new contract from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) as part of Kuwait’s efforts to develop its oil infrastructure, particularly with plans to enhance its production and export capacities and maintain its position as one of the leading energy suppliers in global markets.
Hydrocarbon Engineering magazine announced that L&T’s Onshore Hydrocarbon Energy division secured a major contract for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works for the Light Jurassic Crude (JLO) export facilities, as well as for upgrading the existing crude oil export network in Kuwait.

The financial value of the contract was not disclosed. However, the nature and scope of the work, classified as a Lump Sum Turnkey project, indicate that it is a major project requiring a high level of engineering and execution expertise.
L&T’s win of the Kuwait Oil Company contract signals the attractiveness of the Kuwaiti market to global energy specialists. In the coming phase, Kuwait aims to implement projects related to oil field development, increased gas production, updated export facilities, improved energy efficiency, as well as sustainability and emissions reduction projects.
Project Components
The project aims to support the oil storage and export system by constructing six new crude oil storage tanks, each with an operational capacity of 618,000 barrels. The total operational capacity of the six tanks amounts to 3.708 million barrels, along with the development of supporting facilities linked to the storage system.
Consequently, the new facilities will add significant storage capacity, enhancing the flexibility of crude management operations, particularly given Kuwait’s direction toward increasing production and improving efficiency in handling oil flows.
The project also includes the installation of new pipelines and the upgrade of the current crude oil loading and export network, in addition to improving the efficiency of the crude transportation system from production areas to export facilities. This development aims to accommodate production growth and enhance Kuwait’s ability to manage its oil exports with greater flexibility.

Light Jurassic Crude is one of the key projects within Kuwait Oil Company’s strategy to develop unconventional oil resources and enhance the production of high-quality light crude.
The Jurassic oil reservoirs are located in northern Kuwait and are part of the state’s efforts to diversify the production base and utilize available reserves using advanced exploration and production technologies.
