Lebanese President: Rule of Law is the Sole Guarantee to Prevent a Repeat of the Beirut Port Tragedy

- The judiciary is urged to issue an indictment regarding the port explosion on the eve of the sixth anniversary of the disaster

Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun affirmed that the rule of law represents the sole guarantee to prevent a recurrence of the tragedy of the Beirut port explosion, expressing his hope that Lebanon, through achieving full justice, will regain the trust of its citizens and the standing it deserves among nations.

Speaking on the sixth anniversary of the Beirut port explosion, Aoun stated that this occasion reopens an unhealed wound for Lebanese people and recalls a disaster that changed the face of the capital, stressing that truth, justice, and accountability are obligations that are not subject to statutes of limitations.

He remembered the martyrs, the wounded, and the families of the victims, considering that the country will not regain the trust of its citizens in its institutions unless the path to justice is completed to its end.

He emphasized that accelerating the investigation process has become a necessity that cannot tolerate further delay, affirming that justice means establishing the truth, uncovering the full reality, and holding accountable anyone who neglected, fell short, or caused the disaster, regardless of their position or status, and that the law must be applied to all without exception.

The Lebanese president called on the judiciary to demonstrate its independence and its ability to deliver justice to the victims, affirming that issuing an indictment in the case has become “a necessity that cannot tolerate further waiting,” and stressing that achieving justice is a right for the martyrs and their families, who have been awaiting the revelation of the truth for years.
