From Invasion to Liberation... A Nation Victorious Through Faith and Unity
On August 2, 1990, Kuwaitis awoke to one of the most harrowing chapters in their nation’s history, as the State of Kuwait fell victim to the brutal Iraqi invasion. This aggression violated the country’s sovereignty, terrorized its citizens, and left scars that remain vivid in the collective memory of the nation and its people.
Despite the harshness of those days, they revealed the true character of the Kuwaiti people, who stood united behind their legitimate leadership. They remained steadfast in their belief in the justice of their cause, loyal to their homeland, resistant to occupation, and armed with patience, resilience, and faith that truth prevails and that hardship is always accompanied by ease.
Throughout the months of occupation, Kuwaitis exemplified the finest forms of endurance, demonstrating remarkable solidarity and sacrifice. Members of the resistance wrote brilliant pages of heroism, while brotherly nations and friends stood by Kuwait in a historic show of support. This culminated on February 26, 1991, with the dawn of liberation, as the homeland was restored free and dignified, and the Kuwaiti flag flew proudly over its sacred soil.

The anniversaries of the invasion and liberation are not merely occasions to recall pain, but national milestones from which we draw lessons and insights. The events proved that unity is an impregnable fortress, that rallying around legitimate leadership is the foundation of a state’s strength and stability, and that security is a great blessing deserving of gratitude and preservation.
Today, amid the challenges and transformations facing the world and the region, our responsibility grows to strengthen national awareness, entrench values of loyalty and belonging, stand united behind our wise leadership, safeguard our nation’s achievements, counter rumors, and defend Kuwait’s security and stability against any threat.
Furthermore, loyalty demands that we remember Kuwait’s righteous martyrs, pray for their mercy, and honor the sacrifices of the Armed Forces, security agencies, and all who contributed to the liberation and reconstruction of the homeland. We must instill in new generations the truth of what transpired, ensuring history remains alive and Kuwait stays proud and resilient, God willing.
We pray to Almighty God to protect Kuwait, its leadership, and its people; to perpetuate upon it the blessings of security, faith, and stability; to reward its martyrs with the finest recompense; to have mercy on those who gave their lives defending the nation; and to keep the Kuwaiti flag flying high with honor and dignity until the Day of Judgment.
