Tomorrow... Opening of bids for the construction of three power plants for the cloud data centers project
The Central Tenders Board has set Sunday as the deadline for submitting bids for the tender to supply and install three main substations for the cloud data centers project in various locations, along with their feeders and accessories.
Following the bid opening, the submissions will be referred to the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy—the competent authority—for review and the preparation of a technical recommendation within 30 days of referral. A final award decision will be made based on the recommendation, selecting the bid that meets the technical requirements.
The implementation of these three substations is crucial as they form the infrastructure for one of the most significant projects relied upon by the Public Authority for Communications and Information Technology. This project represents a key step toward strengthening the digital infrastructure and supporting digital transformation efforts in both government and private sectors by providing advanced and secure cloud services. It also enhances Kuwait’s position as a trusted regional hub for data and cloud computing services.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electricity is currently seeking to finalize procedures for the construction, completion, and maintenance of a 1600 mm diameter fresh water pipeline from the Abdullah Port Water Distribution Complex to the West Al-Fanitees Complex, as well as a 1200 mm diameter brackish water pipeline from the Abdullah Port Complex to the Zour Complex, along with associated works. The Ministry recently contacted the Central Tenders Board to approve the tendering of the project to eligible companies registered with the Board. However, the Board deferred its decision pending receipt of a subsequent letter from the Ministry detailing the amendments discussed.
Once the Board approves the tender after the necessary amendments are made, a tender announcement will be issued, and a deadline for bid submission by participating companies will be set. Bids will then be opened and referred to the Ministry for review within 30 days, after which they will be returned to the Board to make the award decision in accordance with applicable regulations.
In a related development, the sector has included two similar projects in its initial plan: the construction and completion of a 1200 mm diameter ductile iron fresh water pipeline from the High Metlaqa area to the low-cost housing zone; and the construction, completion, and maintenance of main fresh water pipelines (1200 mm diameter, ductile iron) from the Al-Wafra Water Complex (No. 1) to the southern part of the Sabah Al-Ahmed residential city. These initiatives are part of the Ministry’s efforts to provide and enhance the fresh water network to serve residents in those areas.
