Syria: Three brothers who killed 15 civilians after forcing them to praise the Assad regime arrested

Syria’s Internal Security Forces arrested three fugitives implicated in the massacre of civilians during the regime of ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad: the brothers Akram Shama, Farzat Shama, and Ghiath Shama.

The Internal Security Forces announced on Saturday via a post on the “X” platform that investigations supported by evidence, circumstantial evidence, and video footage revealed the detainees’ involvement in the detention and killing of 15 civilians during the Syrian revolution.

The agency added that the detainees confessed to direct responsibility for the video documenting the crime, which showed the victims with their hands bound and eyes covered, after being forced at gunpoint to praise the Assad regime before being shot and killed en masse.

It further noted that the necessary legal procedures were organized against the detainees, and standard formalities were completed in preparation for referring them to the competent judiciary to take legal action against them.

Previously, on July 30, the Internal Security Forces arrested Fayez Abbas Akhal and Nasr Muhammad Ghassan for their involvement in war crimes and for participating alongside the former regime’s apparatus in attacks targeting civilians in the countryside of Homs Governorate.

The Ministry of Interior affirmed its continued efforts to pursue officials and elements of the former regime implicated in war crimes and violations against the Syrian people, thereby reinforcing the principle of non-impunity, supporting the transitional justice process, and safeguarding the rights of victims and their families.
