Officially... Infantino backs down under pressure from objections and cancels FIFA's private investment project

FIFA President Gianni Infantino officially announced the cancellation of the “FIFA Forward Enterprise” project, which had involved selling a stake in a proposed company to manage the federation’s commercial rights, thereby ending a plan that sparked widespread controversy and division among member associations since its disclosure.

Infantino stated that the project aimed to lay the foundation for strengthening member associations and developing football worldwide, particularly in countries requiring greater support and investment in the sport’s infrastructure.

He clarified that proceeding with the project was conditional from the outset on securing the approval of a majority of member associations, and on continuing consultations with national federations, the FIFA Council, continental confederations, and various stakeholders.

He added that, after carefully listening to differing viewpoints, it became clear that the project had become a source of division within global football, contradicting the objective for which it was originally proposed.

Infantino said in a statement: “After carefully listening to all perspectives, it has become evident that the project has caused divisions. Regardless of the level of support it received, it no longer serves the primary purpose for which it was launched.”

He continued: “Our goal has always been, and will always be, to unite the game and elevate it. In light of this, we will not proceed with this proposal.”
