Eddie Howe Departs Newcastle After Five Eventful Years

Newcastle United announced on Friday the immediate departure of its manager, Eddie Howe, bringing an end to a tenure that lasted nearly five years.

In a statement published on the club’s website, Howe said: “After a period of personal reflection, I have decided that the time has come to step down as Newcastle United’s head manager.”

He added: “After nearly five years in which I dedicated my life, heart, and soul to the club, and gave every ounce of energy I had, I feel that it is in the best interests of the club and my own personal well-being to step aside now to regain my vitality and take some time to rest.”

He continued: “Although making this decision was extremely difficult, I know deep down that it is the right choice. I have always placed Newcastle’s interests above my own personal interests in every decision I have made since my arrival, and this decision is no different.”

Howe leaves after transforming Newcastle into one of the most prominent domestic and continental competitors, achieving several historic milestones, including winning the English League Cup, the club’s first major domestic trophy in 70 years.

He also led the team to qualify for the UEFA Champions League twice and reach the knockout stages of the competition for the first time in the club’s history.
