Omani mountaineer Nazira Al-Harthi dies in Pakistan avalanche

Omani mountaineer Nazira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthi, the first Omani woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest, died as a result of a snow avalanche that struck an international expedition attempting to climb Broad Peak in the Karakoram range in northern Pakistan. Pakistani authorities confirmed they had identified her body during search and rescue operations following the avalanche, while specialized teams continued searching for the remaining missing climbers.

Al Harthi is among the most prominent female pioneers of mountaineering in the Sultanate of Oman. She achieved a historic milestone on May 23, 2019, by becoming the first Omani woman to summit Mount Everest. She continued her career by ascending several other prominent global peaks, including Ama Dablam, K2, Manaslu, and Nanga Parbat, establishing herself as one of the most inspiring figures in adventure sports and mountaineering.
