'Peace Council': Israel's withdrawal from Gaza must coincide with the disarmament of 'Hamas'
- The movement agreed to a detailed roadmap ensuring the transfer of sector management to civilian authorities and the dismantling of weapons
- The National Committee for the Management of the Sector confirmed its full readiness to assume management and lead recovery efforts
Nikolai Mladenov, CEO of the “Peace Council” in Gaza, announced on Friday the reaching of an agreement on the disarmament and transition to civilian administration in the Gaza Strip, stressing that the withdrawal of Israeli forces must fully coincide with the disarmament process.
In a statement, the “Peace Council” announced that Hamas had agreed to a detailed roadmap, alongside the mediating countries Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States, describing the agreement as a “historic achievement” should the movement formally commit for the first time to an actionable plan.
The statement clarified that the roadmap stipulates Hamas’s relinquishment of all its weapons, followed by an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, considering this step as paving the way for tangible gains for the sector’s residents and enhancing security and stability.
It added that the current focus is on implementing the roadmap, noting that the National Committee for the Management of Gaza will soon begin assuming its responsibilities with support from an international stabilization force, while working to strengthen the rule of law, improve humanitarian conditions, and accelerate recovery and reconstruction efforts.
For its part, the National Committee for the Management of Gaza welcomed the progress made, confirming its full readiness to assume management of the sector after completing its institutional and operational preparations, including restoring public services, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid, and leading the reconstruction phase.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday the reaching of an agreement requiring the complete disarmament of Hamas, considering it a significant step toward forming a new Palestinian government in the Gaza Strip.
Trump stated in a post on the “Truth Social” platform that the “Peace Council” had reached a historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, emphasizing that the disarmament process would be carried out through carefully organized stages.
