Accession Day... 27 Years of Reform, Development, and Enhancing Morocco's International Standing

The Moroccan Embassy confirmed that the occasion reflects the progress achieved by the Kingdom, featuring a growing economy and indicators that bolster investor confidence. Morocco is strengthening its presence in global trade and investment, leading in the automotive and aerospace industries, with renewable energy serving as a cornerstone for economic transformation. Tanger Med stands as Morocco’s gateway to global trade, while the 2030 World Cup will accelerate development and investment momentum. The Southern Provinces are witnessing strategic projects and continuous development, and the Port of Dakhla acts as an economic lever toward the African interior. Meanwhile, diplomatic gains for the Moroccan Sahara issue continue, with praise for the Kuwaiti stance supporting the territorial integrity of Morocco.

The Kingdom of Morocco today commemorates the 27th anniversary of the ascension of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God support him, to the throne of his blessed ancestors. This national occasion holds a firmly entrenched place in the consciousness of the Moroccan people, as it embodies the continuity of the state, the unity of the nation, and the depth of the historical bond between the glorious Alaouite Dynasty and the Moroccan people, within the framework of the legitimate pledge of allegiance (Bay'a), which has constituted one of the foundational constants of the Moroccan state and a symbol of its stability and unity across the centuries.

In a statement marking the occasion, the Moroccan Embassy in the State of Kuwait emphasized that the glorious Throne Day acquires a dimension beyond its historical symbolism, representing an annual milestone for assessing the outcomes of the major initiatives underway in the Kingdom and renewing the resolve to continue the path of reform and development.

The Embassy clarified that since His Majesty King Mohammed VI ascended the throne in 1999, Morocco has embarked on a comprehensive reform and development project based on modernizing the economy, enhancing investment, developing infrastructure, consolidating territorial justice, and expanding the Kingdom’s openness to its regional and international environment, thereby strengthening its position as a reliable and active partner at both regional and international levels.

It added that the royal vision is built on linking political stability with economic development, institutional strength with investment attractiveness, and social progress with openness to the world. It stressed that these reforms were not merely reactive to changing circumstances, but rather part of an integrated national project that positions investment as a driver of growth, infrastructure as a catalyst for competitiveness, and human capital as the foundation for economic take-off.

The statement noted that the Moroccan economy recorded growth of 4.9 percent in 2025, with gross domestic product reaching approximately 1.72 trillion dirhams, reflecting the resilience of the national economy and its ability to adapt to international changes. This performance is supported by a diversified production base, stability in economic and financial institutions, and ongoing reforms aimed at improving the business climate and enhancing investor confidence.

Morocco has also continued to strengthen its presence in global value chains, with goods exports reaching approximately 46.9 billion dirhams, while foreign direct investment exceeded 56 billion dirhams in 2025, underscoring the attractiveness of the Moroccan economy and the stability of its legal and institutional environment.

In the industrial sector, the statement highlighted that Morocco has become the leading car producer in Africa, with an annual production capacity of nearly 700,000 vehicles and a local integration rate of 70 percent, targeting an increase to 80 percent by 2030. The aerospace manufacturing sector is also witnessing continuous growth; the Kingdom hosts approximately 150 specialized companies providing nearly 26,000 direct jobs and contributing to the manufacturing of components for major global firms, with a local integration rate reaching 42 percent.

In the field of the energy transition, the Kingdom continues to expand its adoption of renewable energy, as part of a strategic objective to raise the share of clean energy to 52 percent of the electricity generation mix by 2030.

The embassy confirmed that the Tanger Med port has solidified its position as the largest port in Africa and the Mediterranean after handling over 11 million containers in 2025, establishing itself as a global logistics hub linking Morocco to major international trade routes.

The statement added that Morocco’s hosting, in partnership with Spain and Portugal, of the 2030 FIFA World Cup finals represents a historic opportunity to accelerate investment in infrastructure, transport, tourism, and the digital economy, reflecting international confidence in the Kingdom’s organizational capabilities.

The Southern Provinces

Regarding the Southern Provinces, the statement clarified that development projects are continuing under the new development model for the Southern Provinces, with a financial envelope of 87.5 billion dirhams. These projects cover sectors such as transport, ports, energy, fisheries, industry, and services, alongside the development of social facilities. The Dakhla Atlantic Port project stands at the forefront of these initiatives, serving as a cornerstone for enhancing the region’s competitiveness and opening it up to both the African and Atlantic spheres.

On the diplomatic front, the embassy affirmed that the Kingdom continues to achieve successive gains on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, amid growing international support for the Autonomy Initiative as a serious, realistic, and credible solution, in line with Security Council resolutions, most recently Resolution 2797 issued on October 31, 2025. This resolution considered a genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty as the most viable solution to settle the fabricated regional dispute. This development underscores the readiness of the approach led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which combines safeguarding territorial integrity, promoting development, and building partnerships based on transparency, trust, and mutual respect.

The embassy praised the fraternal and steadfast position of the State of Kuwait, its leadership, government, and people, in supporting the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Autonomy Initiative, emphasizing that this stance reflects the depth of historical relations and bonds of sincere brotherhood between the two sister countries.

Kuwaiti-Moroccan Relations

The embassy also noted that Kuwaiti-Moroccan relations are witnessing sustained momentum, thanks to the shared will of the leaders of both countries, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and his brother His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God protect them, to enhance bilateral cooperation across various fields.

The statement highlighted that economic relations between the two countries experienced positive dynamics during the past year, through the organization of two economic forums in Kuwait, in partnership with the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Exports, the Moroccan Confederation of Exporters, and the Moroccan Federation of Food Industries. These efforts contributed to expanding the horizons of cooperation and investment between the two sides.

The embassy concluded its statement by emphasizing that the 27th anniversary of the glorious Throne Day represents an occasion to take pride in the achievements attained and to renew confidence in the Kingdom’s future and its ability to continue its developmental journey. It also serves as an opportunity to reaffirm the shared will of Morocco and Kuwait to elevate their bilateral relations to broader horizons, serving the interests of both countries and embodying the deep fraternal bonds uniting the two sister peoples.
