Egyptian Petroleum: Fire Contained on Two Ships at Damietta Port, No Injuries

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum announced today that a fire broke out in two ships at the Port of Damietta, confirming that relevant authorities responded to the situation and brought it under control, with no injuries reported.

Egyptian media reported that the fire started in the engine room of one of the ships before fire crews managed to extinguish it, while concerned authorities launched investigations to ascertain the circumstances and causes of the incident.

For his part, an Egyptian security source told Al Arabiya channel that security agencies are monitoring the incident in full, noting that a committee from the Ministry of Petroleum has begun investigating its causes.

Meanwhile, Reuters cited two security sources as saying that Egyptian gas storage tankers at the Port of Damietta may have been targeted by a drone attack.

Maritime security company Ambrey also reported that a US-owned floating liquefied natural gas storage facility in Damietta was attacked by at least one drone, clarifying that the targeted facility is owned and operated by a US company.
