CENTCOM: Iran's Revolutionary Guard has no authority to impose routes on ships in the Strait of Hormuz

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed today that the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway, and that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has no authority to impose specific routes on free and open navigation.

The command stated that the Revolutionary Guard continues to claim that international sailors must adhere to the routes it designates, following its threats and attempts to attack commercial vessels and sailors transiting the strait.

It added that commercial ships continue to use the Strait of Hormuz with U.S. military support, noting that its forces have assisted approximately 1,000 ships and shipments containing 500 million barrels of crude oil in transiting the waterway since early May.
