Al-Sharaa: We will not intervene militarily in Lebanon and will work on a security agreement with Israel

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa affirmed that Damascus does not intend to intervene militarily in Lebanon, while working to reach a security agreement with Israel involving several countries. He expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for a comprehensive peace without undermining Syria’s rights in the occupied Golan.

In excerpts from an interview with Al Jazeera, al-Sharaa stated that Syria is avoiding confrontation with Israel and sees no interest in entering into a direct conflict with it, noting that the success of ongoing security arrangements could open the path toward a broader settlement.

On the Lebanese issue, he clarified that Damascus is discussing with the Lebanese government ways to help overcome the crisis and steer the country to safety, emphasizing that addressing it cannot be limited to security measures alone, but requires a comprehensive solution that takes into account its various dimensions.

Al-Sharaa warned that any chaos in Lebanon would directly impact Syria, announcing Damascus’s support for restricting weapons and placing the decision on peace and war in the hands of the Lebanese state.

He also expressed concerns over the widening scope of war in the region and its potential regional repercussions.
