Developing cooperative work is a priority to protect shareholders’ funds and enhance oversight and governance
The Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaili, affirmed that developing the cooperative sector is a priority in the Ministry’s plans, given its pivotal role in regulating cooperative activities, monitoring the performance of cooperatives, and ensuring their compliance with laws and regulations, thereby safeguarding shareholders’ rights and enhancing the quality of services provided to citizens.
Al-Huwaili stated during an inspection tour she conducted today, Sunday, at the cooperative sector headquarters within the Ministry’s complex in the Ministries Compound, that field visits allow for direct assessment of the nature of work within sectors, listening to the feedback of employees and auditors, and identifying actual needs. This contributes to making appropriate decisions and developing procedures based on practical grounds that consider daily operational requirements.

She stressed the necessity of full compliance with the systems and decisions governing cooperative work, applying them fairly and transparently to all cooperatives. She emphasized that there would be no leniency in addressing any administrative or financial violations that could harm shareholders’ interests or affect the efficiency of cooperative work.
She affirmed that protecting shareholders’ funds is among the Ministry’s top responsibilities, achieved by tightening oversight on expenditure and investment, monitoring the integrity of financial and administrative procedures, and ensuring that cooperative resources are directed toward achieving the public interest and benefiting shareholders and residents of the areas.
Al-Huwaili called for enhancing coordination among the departments of the cooperative sector, unifying procedures and work mechanisms, and improving communication with cooperative societies. This aims to ensure the swift resolution of observations, responding to inquiries, and processing files without unjustified delays.
She confirmed the Ministry’s continued review and development of the cooperative work system to keep pace with changes, consolidate the principles of governance, integrity, and accountability, and enhance the economic and social role of cooperative societies in serving citizens and society.
