Miss Egypt Refuses to Hand Over Crown, Threatens to 'Expose Secrets'

Cairo – Agencies: Former Miss Egypt, Irina Youssef, announced her refusal to hand over the crown to the new queen who will succeed her in the upcoming season, accusing the pageant’s management of marginalizing her and treating her unfairly in favor of another individual.

Youssef stated in a Facebook post that her decision came after a long period of silence, during which she refrained from speaking about the practices and challenges she faced since her coronation.

She explained that her exclusion from the judging panel of the new preliminary rounds, in favor of another person, was “the straw that broke the camel’s back,” describing the manner in which this was done as “unsound and unfair.”

The Egyptian beauty queen accused the pageant of lacking transparency, asserting that selection criteria are now subject to considerations unrelated to competence or merit.

She emphasized that her decision not to hand over the crown does not target the title or the new queen, but rather stems from respect for the audience and for the values the title is supposed to represent, as well as a rejection of what she described as the absence of fair foundations within the pageant.

In a subsequent comment, Youssef revealed that, according to her account, she had endured continuous attacks and harassment over the course of a full year, affirming that she was not the only one who had faced what she described as such practices.
