Rubio responds to Araghchi: Trump's 'eye for an eye' policy... Iran will pay a heavy price

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Donald Trump’s administration is not dealing with Iran on the basis of “an eye for an eye,” but rather according to what he described as a “head for an eye” policy, in a direct response to remarks by his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi.

Rubio added in media statements on Thursday: “I saw the Iranian Foreign Minister say that their policy is based on the principle of an eye for an eye, but President Trump’s policy is a head for an eye, and that is the reality.”

He affirmed that Iran would pay a heavy price for its actions, noting that it had suffered significant losses, including the destruction of parts of its defense industrial base, as well as the daily loss of launch platforms and radars, with damages estimated in the billions of dollars, while describing the state of its economy as “catastrophic.”

Rubio clarified that Iranian officials continue to communicate with the United States through third countries and intermediaries, seeking to reach an agreement, pointing out that several country officials had informed him of Tehran’s desire to strike a settlement.

However, he argued that the problem lies in Iran’s tendency either to break agreements or attempt to alter them after they are concluded, considering that it may not currently be ready to reach an agreement, but would become so soon as the cost of its positions escalates, despite the hardline rhetoric and media messages it disseminates via social media platforms.
