Saudi Arabia and the United States sign agreement for peaceful nuclear cooperation

The governments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy on Wednesday.

The Saudi Press Agency reported that the agreement comes within the framework of the strategic partnership uniting the two friendly countries, following the announcement made during the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to the United States last November, regarding the completion of negotiations on cooperation between the two countries in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and advanced technologies.

According to the agency, the agreement, signed by Saudi Minister of Energy and Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz and U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and support the exchange of expertise, knowledge, and technologies, thereby contributing to the development of joint cooperation in accordance with the highest international standards related to nuclear safety, security, and non-proliferation. It also reflects the shared vision of the two countries to expand cooperation in the fields of energy and future technologies and to support sustainable development.

The agreement represents an extension of the existing cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, and supports efforts aimed at diversifying energy sources, developing advanced technologies, and enhancing opportunities for cooperation and investment, in order to achieve the common interests of the two friendly countries.
