'Justice': 25,895 cases before the Court of Cassation in May

8,931 non-criminal cases and 16,964 criminal cases... with 83.2% completion rate for electronic notifications

The Supreme Court received 25,895 new cases during May 2026, comprising 16,964 criminal cases and 8,931 non-criminal cases. The completion rate for criminal cases stood at 37.4%, while the completion rate for electronic notifications rose to 83.2%, according to the monthly statistics issued by the Statistics and Research Department of the Ministry of Justice regarding the operations of the Supreme Court.

The statistics showed that the total number of incoming non-criminal cases reached 8,931, compared to 38,200 pending cases. The Court adjudicated 13,719 cases, achieving an overall completion rate of 35.9%.

Non-Criminal Cases

Partial civil commercial cases topped the list of non-criminal cases in terms of incoming, pending, and adjudicated volumes, accounting for 32.9% of incoming cases, 29.9% of pending cases, and 30.3% of adjudicated cases. Fee exemption cases recorded the highest completion rate at 100%, while sales cases recorded the lowest completion rate at 20.1%.

Regarding the distribution of cases among courts, the Capital Court accounted for 53.1% of the total incoming non-criminal cases, followed by the Hawalli Court at 14.9%, then the Ahmadi and Farwaniya Courts. The Capital Markets Court recorded the lowest share. The Ahmadi and Capital Markets Courts achieved the highest completion rates, each at 41.1%, followed by the Jahra Court at 39.3%.

Criminal Cases

On the criminal side, the Supreme Court received 16,964 cases in May, compared to 43,348 pending cases, with 16,212 cases adjudicated, representing a completion rate of 37.4%.

The statistics indicated that misdemeanor cases accounted for the largest share of criminal cases, representing 66.5% of incoming cases, 75.7% of pending cases, and 67.7% of adjudicated cases. Appeal misdemeanor cases recorded the highest completion rate at 51.5%, followed by felony cases at 35.8%, and then misdemeanor cases at 33.4%.

Electronic Notifications

In terms of electronic services, the Notifications Department at the Supreme Court received 31,713 electronic notifications during May, of which 26,374 were completed, achieving a completion rate of 83.2%.

The Capital Court led in the completion rate of electronic notifications at 94.5%, followed by the Ahmadi Court at 89.9%, then Jahra at 88.8%, Hawalli at 78.3%, while the Farwaniya Court recorded a completion rate of 70.5%.

The indicators confirmed the continued efforts of the Ministry of Justice to enhance judicial work efficiency, accelerate the pace of case adjudication, and develop the electronic services system, thereby contributing to raising the quality of judicial services and achieving expeditious justice.
