Government Debt

The government has outstanding debts owed by individuals, including fees and other charges, even for water and electricity bills, while these individuals also have their own obligations, whether to banks or other entities.

In these circumstances, the government should deal with the public with compassion. We are not calling for the cancellation of debts, but rather for relief for the people, as many are facing financial hardship.

The government should adopt a lenient approach and exercise mercy in installment arrangements. In such situations, previous Kuwaiti governments have allowed debt repayment in installments rather than taking measures that would lead to the closure of businesses or the revocation of licenses.

Today, the state is governed with a spirit of compassion, and the government should take this into account.

Kuwait has faced crises before, such as the coronavirus pandemic and the global economic collapse in 2008. During those periods, authorities dealt with the public leniently and mercifully, after which people fulfilled their obligations to the state, whether paying water and electricity fees, government service charges, or bank loans.

Tomorrow brings a new day.
