Deputy Minister of Defense: We look forward to developing military cooperation with China and strengthening the strategic partnership

A Kuwaiti military delegation visited Beijing last week, with announcements regarding any deals or joint exercises to be made at the appropriate time.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Meshal Al-Sabah, revealed that a Kuwaiti military delegation visited the People’s Republic of China last week to discuss ways to enhance military cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized that any announcements concerning defense deals or joint military exercises would be made at the appropriate time.

Sheikh Abdullah Meshal, speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait’s celebration of the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, stated that the Ministry of Defense looks forward to developing military and defense cooperation with China within the framework of the strategic partnership linking the two countries, contributing to supporting security, stability, and prosperity in the region.

He clarified that cooperation with China covers several military fields, including the military industry, particularly the production of light and medium ammunition currently present in Kuwait. He noted that cooperation with each country is conducted according to specific areas.

In response to a question about leveraging Chinese expertise in air defense and unmanned aerial vehicles, he affirmed that Kuwait is keen on building bridges of defense cooperation with various friendly nations, and that its defense policy is based on strengthening military partnerships in accordance with national security requirements.

He added that Kuwait-China relations are built on solid foundations of friendship and strategic partnership, particularly in the fields of defense and security. He expressed the Ministry of Defense’s aspiration to continue developing joint cooperation in the coming phase, serving the interests of both countries and enhancing security and stability in the region.

He concluded by extending congratulations to the government and people of the People’s Republic of China on the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, wishing them continued progress and prosperity.
