Foreign Ministry Summons Iranian Ambassador and Hands Over Protest Note Over Iran's Targeting of Kuwaiti Tanker 'Kivan'

Tehran bears full responsibility for this aggression and its ongoing hostility toward Kuwait

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, summoned the Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait, Mohammad Toutounji, on Tuesday, delivering a protest note regarding Iran’s targeting of the Kuwaiti tanker “Kivan” on Monday evening as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in injuries to several members of its crew.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Ambassador Al-Mashaan emphasized during the meeting that this blatant aggression occurs against the backdrop of the escalating malicious campaign of aggression launched by Iran against Kuwait since February 28, 2026, including inflammatory and provocative statements issued by the Iranian side. He stressed that this constitutes a flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and interests, as well as a threat to international security and freedom of navigation, and a breach of international law, the UN Charter, and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.

Kuwaiti officials reiterated Kuwait’s demand for Iran to immediately halt its unlawful attacks, while affirming Kuwait’s right to take necessary measures, and placing full responsibility on Iran for this aggression and its continued hostility toward Kuwait.
