Customs Authorities Foil Smuggling of 10 Kilograms of Marijuana in Shipment from Thailand

Officials from the General Administration of Customs at the Air Cargo Customs Department foiled an attempt to smuggle approximately 10 kilograms of the narcotic marijuana, which was hidden inside a shipment arriving from the Kingdom of Thailand. The shipment’s documentation falsely declared its contents as a table and lighting fixtures.

The seizure followed suspicions regarding the shipment, which was subjected to thorough inspection procedures that revealed the narcotics concealed beneath boxes containing lighting decorations. The concealment was carried out in a professional manner intended to disguise the contraband and evade customs controls.

Immediately, coordination was established with the General Administration for Combating Narcotics and Alcohol, and the suspect, an Indian national, was apprehended while taking delivery of the shipment. Legal measures were taken against him.

The General Administration of Customs reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying inspection and monitoring at all customs checkpoints, and to firmly thwarting attempts to smuggle prohibited substances, in order to safeguard the security and safety of society. Investigation reports are being prepared, and the suspect and seized items are being referred to the General Administration for Combating Narcotics and Alcohol to complete the legal procedures.
