CENTCOM: US soldier killed during demolition of Iranian drone remnants in Iraq

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced today that unidentified remains were discovered at the site where two American soldiers were killed and a third went missing in Jordan, confirming that tests are underway to verify their identity.

CENTCOM stated that the remains were found following a meticulous search operation conducted by U.S. Army personnel, without providing further details.

The command had previously announced yesterday the death of two American soldiers and the disappearance of a third, following an Iranian attack that took place in Jordan on July 17.

In a separate incident, CENTCOM announced the death of an American soldier in northern Iraq on July 18 while carrying out his duties. The death resulted from a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance caused by a one-way expendable attack drone (loitering munition) of Iranian origin that had crashed earlier.

It added that another American soldier was injured in the incident and is still receiving treatment for minor injuries.

The command confirmed it would withhold any additional information, including the identities of the missing and deceased soldiers, out of respect for their families’ privacy during the notification process.
