Tranquility
One of the righteous, whose faces radiate light, was asked: “What is the secret of the tranquility that envelops you?”
He replied: “I read, ‘The matter is decreed,’ and so I entrusted my affairs to the Lord of the Decree.
I read, ‘Indeed, with hardship comes ease,’ and I became convinced that hardship will inevitably pass.
I read, ‘So what do you think of the Lord of the Worlds?’ and I realized that God’s bounty will surely come, that much becomes little when you aspire, and little becomes much when you are content, and that forgetting is a mercy when you forgive.
This is the secret of my tranquility, and may it be lasting.
And tomorrow brings another day…
