Exposing the Falsity of Personal Beliefs

Exposing the Falsity of Personal Beliefs

Dialogues

In this article, personal belief refers to any conviction that has become entrenched in a person’s mind for various reasons, including their personal life experiences, perhaps their upbringing, or specific life experiences they have acquired. At least for me, every personal belief in today’s turbulent world is a temporary hypothesis that may be true or false.

Such beliefs may need to change in light of new information that an individual acquires, which compels them to expose the falsehood of some of their vague personal convictions. Among the causes of this phenomenon and some benefits of logical thinking about it, we mention the following:

- Causes of the falsehood of personal beliefs: An individual encounters a complex life problem that, for them, prevents them from continuing effectively in their life journey. They begin searching for solutions but fail to find any, while remaining unaware that one or more of their personal beliefs and convictions are the main reason behind their encountering this or that problem.

At that point, they begin asking logical questions about some of their entrenched beliefs, and whether these beliefs accurately reflect the realities and facts of life. They may discover that what they had believed for many years was nothing but false imaginings woven by their mind at a certain period. One of us may encounter a person with an enigmatic personality, whose behavior does not seem to align with what we previously thought was normal and customary in our surrounding environment. However, after deep reflection, we discover that what prevents us from interacting appropriately with this person is one of our entrenched convictions about them. Upon further deep thinking, we realize that we were the ones who erred in our perceptions of them. Another person may struggle to understand a particular aspect of the lived reality we inhabit, and after deep reflection on the logic of some of our personal beliefs, we discover that what hinders our understanding and comprehension is our prior exposure to intensive ideological indoctrination.

- Benefits of exposing the falsehood of personal beliefs: Renewal of thought, independence, out-of-the-box thinking, avoiding exploitation, establishing the truth, adhering to correct ethical principles, living authentically with oneself, and cleansing one’s personal life from the influence of toxic personalities.

It also helps in breaking blind dependence, gaining genuine friends, enjoying rewarding social relationships, experiencing peace of mind, reducing anxiety, and perhaps even living longer.
