7.3-magnitude earthquake strikes Mexico, shakes Guatemala and El Salvador... Tsunami warnings issued

A powerful earthquake struck southern Mexico on Friday, with tremors felt in Guatemala and El Salvador. The United States Geological Survey initially estimated its magnitude at 7.3.

The agency reported that the epicenter was located 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Acamburú Cerdán in the coastal state of Chiapas, noting that shaking intensity ranged from moderate to strong along the coast.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami threat warning following the earthquake near the Chiapas coast.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also cautioned of potentially dangerous waves within a 300-kilometer radius of the epicenter, specifying that wave heights could reach up to one meter above normal tide levels along the coasts of Mexico and Guatemala.
