Public Works Authority Launches Project for Study and Design of Truck Weighing Stations
In coordination with the Tenders Authority, at an estimated cost exceeding 75,000 dinars
To mitigate asphalt damage, separate truck traffic from residential areas, and enhance smart monitoring, the Ministry of Public Works is preparing to launch a comprehensive tender for the preparation of studies and designs for truck weighing stations, their routes, and related facilities. This initiative aims to reduce damage to the road network caused by exceeding prescribed weight limits and deviating from designated routes, which leads to subsidence, potholes, and deterioration, costing the state millions of dinars annually.
Through this project, the Ministry of Public Works seeks to implement sustainable technical solutions for regulating truck traffic, thereby contributing to the protection of the national road network, improving paving quality, and extending the service life of asphalt. The project includes conducting technical and field studies to establish an accurate database on the number, types, and actual routes of trucks. This will aid in developing pavement layer designs based on real traffic loads and enhance the efficiency of future maintenance works. Additionally, the project aims to separate truck traffic and their facilities from residential and urban areas, thereby raising public safety levels and reducing congestion, alongside the introduction of smart monitoring systems to measure, track, and manage truck weights electronically.
The Ministry is coordinating with the Central Tenders Board to launch the project, given that its estimated cost exceeds 75,000 dinars. The Board will be responsible for advertising the tender and receiving bids from specialized companies.
