Qatar condemns continued attacks on Kuwait’s consulate in Basra: a blatant violation of international law and the Vienna Convention
Qatar condemned on Monday the continued attacks targeting the General Consulate of the State of Kuwait in the city of Basra in the Republic of Iraq, along with the accompanying violations of the inviolability of consular missions.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that targeting consular premises constitutes a blatant violation of international law and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, emphasizing the necessity of respecting the inviolability of consular missions and ensuring their full protection, as well as that of their staff.
The Ministry reiterated Qatar’s full solidarity with Kuwait and its emphasis on the importance of taking necessary measures to ensure the security and safety of consular missions and to prevent the recurrence of such attacks.
