Qatar Prime Minister to Al-Arabiya: Targeting ships in the Strait of Hormuz threatens international navigation security

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, received a phone call from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which they reviewed the latest developments in the military escalation between the United States and Iran over the past two days.

In a statement carried by the Qatar News Agency, the Qatari Prime Minister expressed his country’s condemnation and rejection of the attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, despite the current climate of de-escalation and efforts to reduce tensions in the region. He emphasized that such actions would undermine trust, threaten the security of international navigation, and harm efforts to consolidate regional security and stability.

He stressed the necessity for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy, and to implement the agreements reached under the memorandum of understanding, in a manner that contributes to preserving the security of the region, safeguarding achieved gains, and enhancing regional stability.

During the call, the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also reiterated Qatar’s support for all efforts aimed at containing the escalation and reaching a comprehensive agreement that would contribute to consolidating security and stability, and achieving sustainable peace in the region.
