Field sources familiar with the situation told Sudanese media outlets that an Israeli expert named Meir Cohen is in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, where he is carrying out technical and military duties and training the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to these field sources, the technical and military tasks include developing air defense capabilities, training personnel to operate drones, and overseeing the preparation of ground fortifications, as well as communications, jamming, navigation, and air control systems.
According to the sources, Cohen was previously residing in Ethiopia and working within Ethiopia’s air defense system, specializing in air defense systems, modern communications, and unmanned aerial vehicle technologies, before being brought to Nyala.
Information indicates that he arrived in Nyala in May 2026, where he held meetings with top RSF commanders. His activities focused on developing the use of drones, expanding intelligence operations, strengthening ground fortifications, and training technical personnel.
The tasks attributed to him also included training RSF members to operate strategic drones, increasing their use in offensive operations, preparing shelters for drones at the Keshlingo camp east of Nyala Airport, and installing and maintaining communications and jamming systems.
Information suggests that Cohen uses artificial limbs due to the amputation of one of his legs, following an injury sustained during the Lebanon war.
