Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar confirmed his country’s intention to extend the gas purchase agreement with Algeria’s Sonatrach and increase supply volumes.
It is worth noting that the current agreement expires in September 2027, and Algeria and Turkey have been cooperating in the gas sector for more than three decades.
According to data from Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority, Algerian gas accounted for approximately 14% of Turkey’s imports in August 2026, with supply volumes reaching 383 million cubic meters, a 28% increase over the previous year.
Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran remain Turkey’s main suppliers of natural gas. In addition to Algeria, Ankara also has liquefied natural gas (LNG) agreements with Switzerland’s Mercuria, the United States’ ExxonMobil, the UK’s Shell, and France’s TotalEnergies.
