The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at protecting the environment and natural resources from the devastating impacts of wars and armed conflicts.
This statement was issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the International Day for Preventing the Use of the Environment as a Weapon in War and Armed Conflict.
Marking the 25th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of Resolution 56/4 in 2001, which was initiated by Kuwait to designate November 6 as the International Day for Preventing the Use of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, the Ministry emphasized the necessity of respecting international law provisions concerning environmental protection before, during, and after armed conflicts, as well as ensuring accountability for violations committed against ecosystems and natural resources.
It further affirmed that safeguarding the environment is a shared international responsibility and a fundamental pillar for achieving security, peace, and sustainable development for current and future generations.
