US President Donald Trump said after a meeting with his national security advisers that he would soon make a decision on the possibility of resuming large-scale military operations against Iran, following the midterm elections, according to Axios.
The website cited two US officials as saying that Trump and his top national security advisers held their first meeting on Iran since the elections, as part of the president’s weekly intelligence briefing.
Axios reported that Trump is currently considering three options: launching new military strikes against Iran, continuing economic pressure on the Iranian regime, or reaching an agreement that involves significant concessions to Tehran.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office: “We will make a decision now,” wondering whether the United States should proceed with additional strikes to ensure the end of Iran’s nuclear program and prevent its resumption.
He added: “I’d prefer not to destroy what remains of the country if possible, but I may be forced to. You will know the answer very soon.”
