South Korean electronics giant Samsung maintained its position as the world’s largest smartphone vendor in the third quarter of this year, driven by steady sales of its budget and mid-range Galaxy A series, despite a sharp overall market contraction.
According to data compiled by market-tracking firm Omdia and reported by Yonhap News Agency, Samsung shipped 57.8 million smartphones between July and September, accounting for 22.7% of global shipments.
Samsung’s performance was relatively strong compared to a 20% decline in global smartphone shipments during the same period. Omdia attributed this resilience to robust sales of the Galaxy A series, noting that the company responded to market demand with a diverse product lineup. Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, launched in August, helped bolster Samsung’s position in the premium smartphone segment.
US-based Apple ranked second, shipping 56.5 million smartphones, unchanged from the previous year, with a market share of approximately 22.2% of the total.
On October 29, Samsung Electronics announced that its net profit for the third quarter of this year more than sextupled year-on-year, driven by strong demand for semiconductors linked to artificial intelligence technologies.
