US President Donald Trump affirmed that Iran harbors a desire to reach an agreement with the United States, hinting that this could be achieved in the near future.
In remarks to Axios, Trump clarified that Washington has inflicted severe financial damage on Tehran, leaving it without funds or fuel, and noted that both direct and indirect talks are progressing well, despite Iranian efforts to buy more time.
He pointed out that Iran has recently reaffirmed its lack of intention to pursue nuclear weapons for either civilian or military purposes, reiterating his view that Tehran’s push to conclude an agreement would positively impact energy markets and lead to a drop in oil prices once the conflict ends.
In a related development, Reuters reported that current consultations are addressing a draft agreement between the two sides, formulated based on negotiation rounds held over the past few days, coinciding with the arrival of Qatari mediators in Tehran to hold intensive talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif to resolve outstanding points of contention.
